During supper last night, the doorbell rang. I was greeted by a couple NDSU guys asking for donations. Now, they had no idea I was a staunch UND supporter and Bison loather, but I heard them out. In all honestly, I felt bad for the kids. I know asking for money is difficult, and going door-to-door is even worse. Apparently they were athletes on the NDSU lacrosse team. They said something along the lines of, "we're very fortunate to be able to practice in the new facility on campus, but it's way more expensive than we thought." I didn't know what that meant, exactly, but apparently the team has a chance to go to National Tournament, however they are $40,000 in debt. Or that's what the sheet said that they handed me. Now, on their GoFundMe page (https://www.gofundme.com/h5vfe3ys) it says they are only $5,000 in debt. Which is still a sizable chunk, but a far cry from $40k. The letter goes on to explain: While new practice facilities on the NDSU campus have given the Bison the privilege of practicing indoors this winter, they were expensive. Along with this expensive facility that we had the privilege to use, budget cuts within Student Activities affected our financial circumstances. Due to those new and unforeseen expenses and circumstances, the Bison are short of their financial goal. Also, because no team can know for sure that they are going to the National Tournament before April, budgeting and planning early on in the season for the trip is difficult. So with that said, does anyone know if other NDSU teams share the same fate? I assume the indoor facility they speak of is multipurpose. If anyone feels like helping them out, the link is above. I know there are plenty of Bison fans outside the FM area. Although, who knew NDSU had a D-II Lacrosse team?? I honestly thought that was a club thing.
