We made the trip out to Lake Sakakawea, today. The forecast was for 70 degrees, so how could we turn it down!? We put in at the New Town casino ramp. In actuality, the temps were pretty chilly, in the morning. I think it was 46 degrees out. That's okay, though, because the fish were biting! I thought, maybe, it was still a little early, for that area, in all honesty. I figured the bulk of the fish might still be up river a ways, and maybe they were, but we caught a good bag of nice sized males, pitching jigs. We sat, most of the day, in about 14 fow. One of us was pitching up to shore, and the other was pitching out to the 20 fow range. We were marking fish on both sides, and ended up catching them on both sides as well. Our presentation had to be pretty slow, in the morning, and we were able to be more aggressive later in the day. The fish we caught were milking pretty good. Talked to a few guys at the dock, that did even better than us. They were further west than us, in the White Earth area. Just as a heads up: When we put the boat in the water, we did not notice any issues, but when we returned we were told there is a sizeable hole at the end of the ramp, and he was not kidding! When my buddy backed the boat trailer in it dropped almost a foot, so we ended up abandoning that ramp, and used the temporary they had setup just north of the permanent ramp. It's a metal grate and it worked much better.
