[QUOTE="onpoint!, post: 248364, member: 2703"] so, cop had probable cause to stop you (speeding) although you don't usually roll that way. He put you through field sobriety tests due to the evidence that you had been drinking. you passed, he let you go. not only did it seem to work, but that's the way some here would prefer it happen every time, right? a checkpoint is used to prevent drunk driving, as well as remove those that don't heed the (publicized) warning. some would rather let the driver shake the dice, drive until they get to their destination or crashes (the most common way leo finds probably cause to arrest for dui). meanwhile every foot the vehicle moves puts the driver, all other drivers and anyone else in the area at risk for bodily harm from the impaired driver. if we can take more of these drivers off the street before they hurt/kill others, by way of going through an occasional pre-announced checkpoint, then it seems to me Checkpoint Charlie is a reasonable tool to use in the list of dui-preventive strategies. sorry, i don't understand the logic against it (i don't buy the "losing our rights" theory).
