There is no one answer to making our schools safer. Our schools are as safe as they have ever been. Students and parents come in and leave all the time. No different than than 50 years ago whey I was in school. What is different is the mindset of people who have no concern for human life. It's not uncommon for school shooters to have been loners in school, or have been bullied. If that is the case, then why attack students who they most likely do not even know? Just shooting to be shooting instead of attacking those who bullies or otherwise mistreated them. Bullying is so much different today. Social media had made bullying a non-contact issue. Before social media a person was just about required to bully in person. It happened in my day but not nearly as much and when it did happen, occasionally the bully ended up wishing they would have kept their mouth shut. Movies and games are to blame? When I was young we played "cowboys and Indians", we had GI Joe men, we all had BB guns and did our best to control the barn sparrow population. None of us grew up with the idea it was OK to actually go out and harm Indians, or feel the need to grow from sparrows to humans or a desire to purposefully go to war. Many of my age did end up in a war but that was a result of a feeling of a duty to our country, not a desire to actually kill at random. Most may age also spent a lot of Sundays mornings in church. We were raised by more than just our parents. We had a lot of parents with different names such as "Grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends of our family." Just about everybody in the community watched out for us when we were young and made sure we stayed on the straight and narrow. Only changing our society will make our schools completely safe. All the other solutions will help but not completely solve societies problems. We can no longer excuse poor behavior at any age. Another question that needs answers is the wide use of medication. How many of them might be having side-effects on the users? I'm fearful many of them are having more bad effects than they are helping.
