Once they reach the checkpoint at Shaktoolik at the 754, they pretty much have to travel oversea on Norton Sound of the Bering Sea for 50 miles until the next check point of Koyuk...this stretch can be a game changer depending on weather conditions...in fact, Nic Petit, who was leading last years race had his dog team quit on him during this stretch from checkpoint to check point... a couple of his dogs were getting agitated with each other and evidently he hollered at them and they quit on him...if it is one thing I have learned watching this race over the years is that the dogs sense the musher and need the assurance that their master/musher will guide them...if they sense something else..they wont run.Stay tuned..looks like there will be a winner early morning Wednesday unless weather is an issue... signing off for now.</blockquote>
