They’re everywhere. I liken it to the current trend of calling all persons of military participation “hero’s” Of course the draft was still on going as well as Viet Nam but some of the most despicable bastards I’ve ever met in this life were in the Army. </strong></p><p><strong></strong></p><p><strong>I’ve encountered North Dakotans I couldn’t stand to associate with let alone share time, a boat or a beer. But most are honest, reputable, hardworking, fun loving people proud of the state and I’m honored to call them neighbors and friends. I can say the same thing about people I grew up with or are related to in Wisconsin. Some I like, some not so much.</strong></p><p><strong></strong></p><p><strong>Funny thing, most Wisconsin folks feel the pinch of encroachment from the hoards of Illinois people who invade every summer. Hwy 41 going north out of Chicago is bumper to bumper on any given Friday in summer. That combined with a liberal judges ruling that Indians can legally spear gamefish during spawning has virtually decimated their walleye population. But, that’s no excuse to come into North Dakota and be a slob, litter, overharvest or be a prick.</strong></p><p><strong></strong></p><p><strong>Most of my hunting these days takes place in the central part of the state where “blue platers and sconies” outnumber the locals. With the exception of their hunting over water and blowing ducks and geese out of my favorite slough and sanctuary I have no problem sharing. They are welcome in the local café and watering hole and I find their sportsmanship and generosity acceptable. They’re generally gone shortly after freeze up and before ice fishing. Therefore I can assure you it’s not the out-of-staters who leave their litter on the gun range or toss empty beer cans on the roadways during deer gun season or kill any number of the dead deer I find on our property each year. </strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>The evolution of the sportsman is a gradual progression and those folks who were not introduced to the sport with conscientious tutelage may never achieve the satisfaction of the hunt without the kill. We learn, we teach and grow by example. No matter how we behave, someone is always watching.</strong></p></blockquote><p></p>
