You put in half a year planning to put a crop in and get to a spring that you can't even walk across your land. Take 2011 for example. Good average was 220$ and acre for pp. 50$ rent, and you had to put about 50$ into keeping that land fit for the next year. Spraying cultivating etc. so your at 120$. Wheat was around 12$. So if you could have gotten in you could have made off a 50bu crop 600$. And expenses were right around 280 including everything. I consider that year a disaster. Thank god we had pp or there would have been failures everywhere. Do you have business insurance. We weren't making more then planting but it was insurance against losing the farm....
Wow after reading most of this crap makes me want a lot of you guys posting to come and hang out for a day at my farm. You guys are correct about a certain percent of farmers (2-5%) use the system, just like any other business out there. The rest of us work hard for what we have, and don't get nor take free hand outs everywhere we turn like you guys think. And off road desiel- construction, commercial, agriculture, anyone who owns a bobcat. Means it's not driven on roads thus you don't pay road taxes. Sure glad I don't know any of your names or faces because if you ever came to ask permission on my land you'd get a swift kick in the butt.... this is the problem a lot. Like we live in different worlds. You hate us but yet you want to hunt on our land. I see most of the anger must be a long going thing but I garantee most farmers would look at these posts and get pretty pissed off on the way you guys think our lives go... o and to the prevent plant comment..... you go ahead and think of it this way. Thank god we had pp or there would have been failures everywhere. Do you have business insurance. We weren't making more then planting but it was insurance against losing the farm....
