Was wondering what the max age of a deer is. The reason I ask is because I saw an add on bismanonline of a guy selling mounts of shed antlers of the same deer that he said was from 1990-2005. Said mounts are worth $18000 - $20000. Just curious if it heard of for a deer to live 15 years?

Why would these horns be worth so much?
I am moving in a few weeks and just tossed about 10 racks in the dumpster, maybe I could have been 20,000 richer haha.
Amazing how much crap a guy hangs onto over a 10 year period, we filled my pickup 3 times with garbage that we hung onto .

they can live up to 25 yrs, "deer years" but most people kill them at 2 1/2yr range so there horns aren't worth 20,000

lots of buyers of "used" racks out there - such as people who make stuff out of them (native american art, wine bottle holders, taxidermists use them for jackalopes, yadda)

down side? dealing with strange ducks who buy old antlers

BTW - they are antlers, not "horns" you western hayseed goofball :;:howdy

Mrs johnr was putting the packing pressure on, no time to be dealing in HORNS.

besides I might offend the light hearted souls with no sense of humor, and in abilities to enjoy sarcasm and light heartedness

Horns are gone, but I do have an any antlered tag this season and unless it's a monster set of horns, it will be free for the taking
Haha, west river lingo

The oldest whitetail i have ever heard of was an 11 year old buck shot by my uncle. The horns were ugly and small. I would have never thought a deer could survive that long in ND.

A fellow named Tim is the states leading expert in knowledge of year classes, particularly for walleye and sauger, but can be applied to deer as well. When in doubt, it's from the 2007 year class or a 2007er:cool:

I was just curious. I assume they have to some serious forensic analysis to age them when they are that old not just the old stain and wear observations.

My hunting buddies and I send our bucks teeth in every fall to the lab for cementum age analysis, its nice knowing thats for sure.
My bull I arrowed in WY was 11.5 years old, thought that was pretty cool!

I have never shot one that old. Is the meat tough? Gimme young back-straps any day.
