A co-worker is buddies with the guy, and the Game and Fish aged the fish, I guess.

Aging it at 17 years old.

Wow, just a hunch, but I always figured that walleye didn't live nearly that long. I always figured maybe 4 to 6 years TOPS.

It typically takes about 25 years to reach 25" there are lakes that will grow them faster because of the forage

an inch a year seems really slow for ND walleye

from ndgf magazine

Game and Fish netting and electrofishing surveys indicate a balanced walleye population in the Missouri River and Lake Oahe. While small fish are abundant, fish 20 inches and longer are common, and fish living into their teens and measuring longer than 30 inches are sampled annually.

I assume the fish grew more than usual in the past few years.

Fish growth is fast the first few years, then slows down as the fish gets older.

These measurements are averaged between males and females. If it were all females the lengths would be longer.

Walleye growth is completely relative to the body of water there in. some of these new Lakes have growth rates that are absolutely off the charts with fish achieving 20-plus inches in 3 years. For example these fish were stocked as fry no less in spring of 13 this pic was taken Dec of 15!
