Looking for opinions on best generator for a wheel house. I am going back and forth on buying a middle of the road generator or buying a Honda. Would be used mainly for ice fishing or possibly small summer projects. Pros, Cons, Preferences please. Help!!

I started with a 2000 watt generac that lasted about 2 seasons then it quit. Going on my fifth season with a Honda 2000 watt and never had any issues yet.

Honda without a doubt. Gonna be far cheaper in the end. And start a hell of a lot better all the time lol

I'm in the same boat but I'm leaning towards a propane generator vs gas. anyone else running one on propane?

Buy once, cry once. Honda all the way. Quiet, efficient, reliable.

I've looked at the yamaha ones as well, but never used one or know anyone who has. If they are as bulletproof as their outboards I wouldn't be afraid to try one of those either.

I have both a 1000 and 2000, you cant go wrong with a Honda. For a Honda my 2000 starts a little hard like 15 to 20 pulls when havent ran for a few months. The 1000 starts on 2 nd or 3rd pull all the time.

Honda, Yamaha, or Subaru. Worth it in the long run. Can add companion to Honda if future needs increase.

Honda 2000w

You can try getting something cheaper than a Honda but once it breaks you will end up with a Honda anyway.

We used to use a champion 3500 and run synthetic oil in it and it always started fine ice fishing and ran everything we wanted. After camping with Honda people, I bought a Honda 3000 a few years back they are so quiet and run great wish I would have had the money to buy one 15 years ago.

Finally bought a CAT generator from Butler Machinery last year, a bit cheaper than the Honda and actually quieter.
But for you guys that want to spend less, for less, I have zero knowledge

Bought a used Honda 3000 last summer. Love it. Easy starting and so quiet. Paid 1000 for it off bisman. Very happy. Also the 3000 is electric start and it can power your camper a.c. in summer 20180508_122309.jpg20180508_122309.jpg

I have 2 Honda 2000w generators one is old school and kinda noisy, the other is quiet, a Harbor Freight 4000w Predator generator and an old 1950's copper wound 1500w generator.

Harbor Freight has these for $499 and a comparison chart against the Honda.
Worth checking out for the price difference.

There are a lot of people on that Ice Castle Owners Group on FB that swear by these things. I've been in and looked at them and they see well built. Warranty is garbage though. They had a bunch of the 3500's that were refurbished one day that they were selling for $350. Kicking myself for not taking one for shits n giggles. I'm just a little skeptical about the actual power supply being it has a smaller motor.
