Man i wish we could have stayed longer down in Payson. Great little city, friendly, and nice warm temps that were in the 60's & 70's. It was perfect for this old fat geezer.

Dude...do yourself a favor and upgrade to LP. You could even have a backup electric plenum heater as a safeguard if the propane runs out or something. Other than venting, a HVAC company can rip out the old unit and get a new one installed in a day. And if you don't have an LP tank yet, a company can still place one and run the gas line above ground now, then bury it in the spring.

This isn't true with current propane and electric prices.

Currently with the off peak electric prices, it would be cheaper to use electric then propane.

1 Gallon of Propane = 27 kWh (Kilowatt Hours) of electricity - This means that one gallon of propane contains the same amount of usable energy as 27 Kilowatt Hours. Or we can say that 27 kWh equals approximately 91,500 BTU.

I have both in my house. I use LP primarly, but have the electric plenum heater as back up source. My current off peak price is $0.052/ KW. Which means that propane prices have to be below $1.40 in order for propane to be cheaper. (27KW x .052 = $1.40 ) Last time I checked propane prices were at $1.59/gal from MVP in Mandan.

You're talking off-peak, though. Customers in town who don't have that option can't get rid of their electric fast enough. Of course, that's natural gas, not LP, and it's quite a bit cheaper. Not a fair comparison, I admit.

Correct, I thought I read the OP said he was on off peak, but for sure if u didn't have off peak I would be finding another source besides electricity. lol Even still offpeak with Mor gran soux only runs from October 1st - april 31st. I know there are times the heat runs b4 then and after those dates. That gets costly, (my shop is all electric infloor heat and those electric bills are ugly sometimes)

I guess you wouldn't like to know that the temp was 80° in SJ on the way back from lunch today. We are having a real heat wave/drought in CA this winter.

Been looking at corn burning stoves the last couple years. Might be time to pull the trigger and start planning the install.

what kind of btu's can u get out of one of them? my cousins grandpa had one in his shop and every time we worked in there it was cold as hell.. not sure if he was just to cheap to really pour the corn to it or not.

if u cld have a silo, a coal stove would be the way to go imo. its fairly cheap to get, just messy, seems like everything is covered in dust all the time from it.
