Not sure why you would even cut it if it fits properly on the spool/drum. Over the years many times the rope/chain have been just a foot...

Why? If the 50 ft fits on your winch I don't see the issue.

I don't think I would worry about the additional 10'. After your 3-4 time using, you'll know if need to make a change.
