Want to get rid of the blue platers and sconnies start by closing the season same as them states. That's when most of them come here to wipe us out. I do think the open spring puts a hurt on some of our fisheries and I'd be willing to support a closed season during the spawn again.

Ndgf could build an boat launch to some of local lakes like strawberry, cavaneu, or fenster to name a few and use them as lakes for stocking perch for the rest of northern part of the state. Very few care about crappie or blue gill stocking in the basin, slot limits and closing the season has been debated and hashed multiple times and the ndgf doesn't see it as a viable option based on their gill netting surveys.

What do you mean by use them for stocking perch?

There are lakes already that dont have boat launches in the state that are full of stunted perch, the g&f only deals with lakes that have boat access. I have caught hundreds 4 incn adult perch full of eggs in one day fishing some of these small ponds. I would bet even some of the smaller ones are full of eggs as well meaning that they are stunted from overall population

Closed April 1- May 31 for NR’s. Monitor results. Never happen but would be interesting.
But That'd actually be looking out for the actual residents/resources and we all know how that goes around here...non-existent!

Liken it to the host of the holidays who pays for, supplies most, and deals with the mess at the end of the night and day after..

I love to fish as much as I can, I do release finish 20 and over but would also support a closed season and either a reduction in daily limit and/or a slot limit again. It worked once it could work again. Make it residents only until June 1. Either we try something to preserve what we have or we will all have fancy boats sitting in the garage not getting used

The issue is they are not interested in stocking lakes in the basin with perch, even though the lakes in the basin are ideal in producing huge perch. Majority if not all the lakes in the basin are full of fresh water shrimp which is the reason why devils lake at one time was a producer of monster toads. Now not one lake in the basin is stocked with perch and that's troubling especially since perch are great at sustainable growth population in very short time. Like some have said there is no reason why ndgf can not stock lakes in the basin with perch which is the reason why many anglers venture to devils lake region for perch during the ice fishing season.
Why stock with perch when you can stock with northerns....🙆‍♂️

Devils lake = the ol gum ball machine at the grandparents.. "It'll just run low before someone decides to give a shit and do something about it for all the great grand children now..." It was just sitting there doing fine on low 20 years ago last time it got used.🤦‍♂️

There is a simple solution but so much red tape in the way. Raising perch in a wild with a controlled environment is like making jello. Fill pond with plankton rich water , stir in broodfish and have a contest to fish them out post spawn. Release offspring when they are the desired size and repeat. There are areas where isolated ponds could be built in a short day with a dozer and managed by a bunch of 4-H kids or any interested groups and that's not BS.

The Fur Takers had a push to get true reciprocity with neighboring states for trapping seasons. Say for instance Wisconsin's muskrat season closed February 15th. That would close our muskrat season to any WI resident on the same day. Game and Fish wanted NOTHING to do with that, and it went nowhere. They threw excuse after excuse from "hardly any non-resident licenses sold anyway" to "too difficult for wardens to keep track of and enforce with 49 other state rules". I like it. You want to fish under our regs, then move here.
A picture of my favorite bird...
