new reel for all around use?

I've typically relied on Pflueger Patriarch or Supreme XT reels. Some are getting old/floppy.

What other reels in this cost/class do you all suggest?

Scheels Daiwa reels have been good for me...the 2500 series work for everything from walleyes to lakers. I like that they have a reverse switch still too.

LOL - that's right - I forgot you are a fan of back-reeling vs relying on the drag.

I never developed the habit back in the day, I just swore at my ##### drag when it failed and then retied. : )

I was also mainly a pflueger guy, but picked up a Piscifun Carbon X recently, and so far it has been a good reel. I haven't had it long enough to tell if it will hold up to a few seasons of use though.

You got one of the best reels out there if you are running a Pflueger Supreme XT IMO

Im partial to my quantum reels but all my reels are no less then a decade old, they were are all top of the line when i bought them and i am firm believer in using synthetic oil and grease every year. I have pflueger presidents and supreme as well but again they are all older reels which i believe the quality was better.
My favorite ice fishing reels are the quantum energy pti05 https://www.tackletour.com/reviewicast09reelsquantum01pg3.html, they are super light and built like little tanks with their titanium coating and ceramic drags and weighing just a tad under 6 oz super light as well. My summer reels are quantum tour edition pti 30 which are 12 bearing titanium coated little heavy though if you are using it on a light action rod but personally i like some weight in my hand when using the long rods. Best time to look for super deals on higher end reels from pflueger, Shimano or quantum is when they come out with their new line of reels, thats whan i did usally save anywhere from 20 to 50 percent of original price. I never pay full price for anything.

I'll say anything "Bill Dance" from BassPro if you're not adverse (ASSumption) to Chinese: If so; pay a few more bucks for a Jap Daiwa and/or Shimano; in agreement/advice from "SDMF".

I second the Carbon X....I run the Carbon X2's in different sizes and have been very pleased, especially for the price

Ice fishing wise I have never complained about Pflueger Trion's for the money. These have been used and abused over and over again and I just can't complain

The Quantum Snapshot was a neat reel for teaching the wife to cast. Not sure why it disappeared...

Ya know you might be right about that. The last couple times we've met up. I was trying a new Fenwick 32" rod with a Scheels reel I threw on when we were perch fishing and the other time walking around I had the 44" Evolution rods with a Piscifun Inline on one and Okuma spinning reel on the other.
I dusted them off a couple times this year when I had to setup the old flipover house.

I just NOW realized: I MISS the "switch" and DON'T miss the grinding noise when engaged. I "no shit" learned back reeling in my early "teens": Mitchell 300/308: Carp/trout/bass/otherwise: Stren/Trilene: UglySticks:

If in modern times: I were the King Of Reels; the drags would all "buzz;, "infinite" anti-reverse would remain standard operation-- "silent" with a back reeling option; like a pistol "safety".

The two reels that I mainly use are the Piscifun Carbon X and the Daiwa Regal, both are priced nicely in that 60-80 range.
