    Spring Snows

There has been lots of snow goose spreads for sale the last few years. People are figuring out spring hunting is hard work with little guarantee of success. Hatches, weather, mud, etc. all take their toll. If you've been in the market for decoys you have probably made out well! I sold mine...

    spring adult pheasants

Yes I know several people that have used them. In the southern half of SD they can get three batches ran through in a summer. The big thing is the temp can't go below mid 50's at night or you will lose birds. The machine has a heater but you need temps above that range for survival. I would...

Conservation organization fundraising in today's world?

All the conservation organizations do something for us as hunters. DU is an easy target for people. I am far from agreeing for with everything they do but they've made more of an impact that almost any other organization. I'll still buy a membership, I'm just not going to go to a...

    spring adult pheasants

If you are really serious and have the money, buy a Surrogator. I've seen a couple guys turn a place that had no pheasants into a pheasant circus in just a few years. 65 or so birds at a time from chicks. Survival rate is much higher than pen raised (pen raised is about 1-2%). Yes, there is...

    Odd fly fishing question

Above response is spot on. Do a Google search for Carp flies. Selection isn't critical, stealth is. I always thought those carp I saw cruising in the boat would be easy. They're not. Gotta find shallow, feeding fish. Then be STEALTHY! Fun, maxed out a 6 wt. a few times.

Conservation organization fundraising in today's world?

A conversation today about conservation organization fundraising made me want to see what other opinions you guys have. I've been a member of several conservation organizations for years. I've been on committees, been the chairman of the event, been the chapter contact. Been through it all...

    Hernia

I had in inguinal hernia not a bilateral. However, I was stiff/store and didn't want to do much for 3 days. I took a week to feel good, probably ten days to be running again. Mostly healed by 3 weeks, no pain or signs of the surgery after 6 weeks. Wasn't bad. I don't like doctors...

    Skid Steer's what to get?

I have been through John Deere, Bobcat, and New Holland. JD is last on my list for lots of reasons. Bobcats are tough and dealers are everywhere. A little crude at times even with newer machines. We have a brand new Bobcat and New Holland and I would personally take the New Holland any day...

    Portable Ice House- Heater Options

The Buddy I've got works fine. I just get sick of how big it is. I have a 5# I can use, so tanks aren't the issue. Mainly, I'm looking for the most compact, light heater that will heat my shack. I'm a bit south of you guys and I often don't have enough ice to do anything but walk on. And...

    Portable Ice House- Heater Options

Curious what you guys are using for heaters in your portable ice houses? I've got an uninsulated Guide so it does take a bit more heat than many of the newer houses. I have a catalytic style heater that does OK in warmer temps. Plus side is that it's small and no open flame. But, just not...

    Bluetipz tip up alarms?

We bought some for the FIL for Christmas. They seem to work pretty well, range was only tested to about 50 yds. But, they are pretty much the same size as the Arctic Fire lights. They have a nice flashing light on them too. My only issue is my phone hates the cold so having a full battery...

    NETFLIX making a murderer

I think the real story is how tough the system can be on disadvantaged folks. Avery was a very slow individual from a very poor background. The system almost made it impossible for him to fight things. I'm not going to be a spoiler but after you watch the series do some research. There are...

    Geese

We have the late option in some areas of SD. But you can't even start hunting those areas until early November. Seems like that would be a huge gamble for you guys up there. The late hunting like others have said have no impact on the local population of geese. Hopefully this cold...

    Choosing structure

I'd fish the long point on D. Access to shallows & feeding areas. And, access to deep water. Drill that point deep to shallow and you'd find a fish.

    Deer Based Breakfast Sausage???

Can anyone give me some guidance on some deer based breakfast sausage? I have a great ring bologna type sausage that works for breakfast. It's really heavy on the garlic. I'm looking for something more sage based and perhaps a country style. I have tried a few recipes I've found online and...

Sweating like a whore in church

We had a lab get heated up once. She was wobbly and couldn't stand. It wasn't terribly warm, around 65 degrees. She was forever changed. Didn't take too much heat and work to get her wobbly again. We had to be really careful with her. She was perfect in cooler weather. One thing we...

    prop

I would not go up to the 17 pitch even if you go down to a 13" dia. prop. 1" of pitch change usually equals 150 RPM loss or gain. Losing diameter but adding pitch will work against each other. If you can find a 13" x 15p I am guessing that will be the closest.

    Tents

I would personally recommend the Cabelas Westwind tents. Less $$$ than the Alaskan Guide series but still tons of features. I have had my 4 man for several years and it's been through snow, hail, and 70 mph winds. I am extremely pleased with the tent. It's kept me dry through some big rains...
