    I emailed land dept. response was they didn’t have to be off in winter but feeding was against the lease unless specific permission was granted and it didn’t sound as though there was any given. They will inspect it he said. Surprises me they can be on all winter

    My original post was asking about the regulations on it because I didn’t know. The more this discussion went on the more info I found out. So Monday I’ll make a call. This land is basically at a dead end of some lease roads so nobody ever goes back there so I’m sure he has always gotten away...

    the only way to prove to the IRS you don’t owe taxes is to file your taxes lol. If he went through all the trouble to prove it to them some other way and not by simply filling out a 1040 then it would be really hard to sympathize

    Ok so today he is finally feeding them. Grinding and spreading hay across the land. I can’t imagine the state would allow him to do that just for the simple fact there are no doubt weed seeds in that hay. This seems so strange

    I don’t understand why the feds didn’t just seize his assets and sell them for the taxes owed? They obviously felt he owed taxes. They could have seized his bank records etc. granted a lot of stuff wasn’t done financially back then like today. But there still had to be some kind of paper trail...
