[QUOTE="JayKay, post: 164976, member: 324"] I'm sure there's a reason for all of this. I'll guess. You want a reason why it's a bad idea to change it. I'd say it's because they know that after March 31, they need to check people. I doubt they check as many people in the fall. Like JohnR said too, a fixed "starting and stopping" point allows for any changes in regulations to take place, once per year. I could see a lot of people saying "oh, I didn't know that..." when faced with a violation. I know that ignorance is no excuse to/for the law, but then they have to decide "do I let this guy slide by, or do I throw the book at him". Also, not everybody does everything via email. A notification sent to my 82 year old father, reminding him in November that his fishing license is going to expire, ain't going to mean a thing to him. Heck, in my life, I pay less attention to email than ever before. I'm pretty much getting sick of it. As Flycarpin stated too, people would let their licenses lapse, until they actually go fishing. Loss of revenue. All in all, I'd say that since it doesn't affect many people at all (we are a pretty good cross section of fishermen here), and most don't mind it, why re-vamp a large entity, for saving a few people $10?
