I only have about a 15 foot section of my unheated garage that gets ice up, but it's right by the front door and the steps turn to ice as well. I have a hot water spigot in the garage so that makes quick work of snow/ice. Once you get to the point where all that is left  is the ice in the eaves trough, use a hammer and a screw driver to break the ice into about 18" chunks and chuck'em down. </p><p></p><p>The real solution is to limit the amount of snow that accumulates on the north facing slopes of your house. I have a snow rake but didn't get to it in time.</p></blockquote><p></p>
