I had been hunting this same spot this year. Only being able to hunt it 3 previous time due to right wind direction. All 3 previous trips resulted in the same thing seeing a decent buck about 180 yards to the north. So yesterday I decided to hang a new set. I had two options an old elm tree that was about dead and a skinny tall tree with lots of branches. I chose the skinny one I like swaying in the wind 3 feet in either direction. This was my vantage point for the night. After about 30 minutes in the stand this guy's steps out of a slough bottom. He was about 150 yards away. This got me worried I have not seen any deer come for there before so I figured my night was shot. He went out to the bean field with a doe and a fawn for about 15 minutes. He started working his way at me then I lost him in a slough bottom. About 20 minutes pass and there he is 60 yards out headed straight at me. After I figured out what trail he was going to take. I got a range and drew my bow. He was walking very slow only taking 2 or 3 steps at a time then stopping to look around. Took forever for him to clear that last branch in the way. He hit the opening still walking and I let the arrow fly. A perfect 30 yard shot resulted in a couple quick jumps. Then a 70 yard death walk. Nothing better than watching a deer fall over when in the stand. I let him lay for about 15 minutes then got down. Went over and got my arrow. I only found 1 drop of blood on my way to recover but I didn't look for any. Not a giant rack but one good mature deer and that is what I was after. Also had 3 coons that tried to climb my tree also.
