I have to think the Iranians and Chinese are already laughing their collective asses off over this. First it's the Iranian mothership off the east coast, satellite imagery already has proven that there's no mothership over there. Then there's the "hey look, another Chinese spy using a drone" article. I really don't know the details on this but that Temecula video of a number of drones flying around at night was kind of telling. It looked to me about like what I would expect, about half a dozen people were illegally flying some higher end drones over a populated area on what they thought was a good night to fly (guessing not much wind). I'd also guess they are launching them off of their apartment building rooftops. A drone the size of a car makes noise, lots of "they make no noise" claims also. Well, we've all been on a given lake and with just a slight breeze we can hear people talking well over a mile away. Turn that slight breeze the other way and you hear nothing. Until such time as the drones appear to be threatening in nature, I just can't imagine a federal agency (FAA, etc) or the U.S. military are going to down one by any method over a populated area. It might fall on some little old lady's head who is out walking her _____ doodle, or the outdoor patio at a Joe's Crab Shack. I suppose with the advent of commercially available drones that are large enough to strap a small explosive, it could be ISIS or Al Quaida, making a dry run. But at the same time, it seems weird that they'd advertise their presence by following a Coast Guard vessel.
