Message: <blockquote data-quote="Ristorapper" data-source="post: 214900" data-attributes="member: 810">I've been diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma.  I actually gave up fishing.  Sold my old boat 5 or so years ago (after the diagnosis) in hopes of maybe replacing it with a new boat but still haven't.  Prior to selling it however I did experiment with some of the long sleeved shirts that protect one from the sun.  Always wore a big brimmed hat on the water but with sun reflection that is never enough.  Will agree that on the hot windless days it gets pretty uncomfortable.  A matter of getting the new tech material wet and replacing 'em on your body,  Even wore the fingerless gloves as i've had spots removed from the back of my hands.  So indeed, i'd be the first one to wear the face and neck material if I were to get back into fishing.  I would also encourage everyone to do so especially if your the lighter haired, light complected person.  I truly have gone into remission by giving up the number one hobby in my life.   I do know there are ways around it however and that is with protection.  I was a non believer of sunscreen with all the chemicals in that stuff.  That was my downfall but at least now there are alternatives out there.  I was a huge follower of tournament fishing and have seen some of those guys go from 'whitey' to a full blown dark, dark tan.  That can't be good for anyone.  Be careful out there and if not you, take care of the young ones because that is where it started with me.  At 8 years of age i was on a cabless tractor for the rest of my school aged years working in the sun, usually shirtless.  It all adds up and one day you began with lesions that won't heal on your skin.   So you that have those wounds on your skin that won't seem to heal, get in and get 'em checked.  IF NOT, Cover up because you don't need someone carving on your body.   Worst was the nose.  I have had 19 skin lesions and one mole checked out and 19 were basal cell carcinoma.  The mole was benign.  My barber noticed the first one on my neck. As long as I kept fishing the skin lesions kept coming after that.  Once I got out of the sun and stayed out of the sun (or went out covered up) the lesions began to slow down and have finally quit appearing.  So i have it under control and/or know how to control it.   Cover up out there or use that sunscreen.  I'm living proof.Will agree with the above post as well.  If there is any kind of breeze at all, it feels as though the parts of your body covered with this new tech fabric stay cooler than the rest of your body.  Also be aware that the clothing comes with an SPF rating, mostly between 35 and 50.  The higher the number the better the protection from the harmful sun rays.- - - Updated - - -The World Wide Sportsman brand of long sleeved shirts sold by Cabelas are "Hot".  Big double collar and vent in the back.  I wear them early spring to late fall but they are too hot for the heat of the summer.   The cabela's guide gear long sleeve t's are made of the new fabric and wore them mostly in the heat of the summer.  I also have an XPS brand new tech fabric long sleeved shirt that is good but just looked it over and has a lot of snags in it.  (not recommended).  I see the local store in town, Scheels finally caught up with the big outdooor shops and carry the gear now.  It's all on sale at about 25% off i believe.  If i were still fishing I'd be down there buying up some of that gear.Oh! bought a few at Sams club locally too recently: junk!!!!</blockquote>
