I usually seem to start on the canals in a tin can, but have also made the trip to the Tailrace a time or two, for my first outing of the spring I am now seeing videos of guys on the Fox River slamming the male walleye, already, which made me wonder what is normally everyone's first boat action of the year. Do any of you head out to the Rainy?

I'll be ice fishing until I can't anymore, then shore fishing for a week or so until I can get the boat in Sak or Audubon.

Audubon culvert or tailrace for me, typically.

Every spring I consider going South or East for some earlier fishing, but never have. I also talk like I’m going to Nelson every year and never have.

I'll start watching the ramps on the Missouri in a few weeks if things warm up. Can usually catch a window of clean water before the run off starts. Last year my first morning out, temps were in the teens.

Haven't picked up a rod since November. Purty soon though.

Probably my first trip will be the tailrace.
