The new Farm Bill is being constructed and there is scuttlebutt about raising the cap on CRP acres. If we learned anything from the massive CRP program from 1998 to 2008, there was a huge exodus of young people who left agriculture and right now there are many kids in school for agronomy who probably won't find a job in their chosen profession if a bunch of land goes into CRP. Delta Waterfowl is working on a better idea. Pay a few bucks to turn cropland into grassland. It can be hayed and grazed. Just not too short. 25 year contract. Delta says these lands produce way more ducks than CRP. We all know there was sod busted that should not have been. (What were our grandfathers thinking?) Converting poor cropland into grass is a win win because these fields are usually the ones that Federal Crop insurance pays more claims to resulting in a savings. I support working lands and Delta Waterfowl's idea. Yesterday was at a Farm Bureau District meeting and this was brought up. Farm Bureau supports working together with Delta Waterfowl on this. Yes, I am about free enterprise and the market place should have corrected this problem about too much grass converted into crop. It has not and I do not have the answer. As for PrairieGhost/Plainsman...........he is usually on the wrong side of issues. Sunshine has always proven to be a great ant-septic.</blockquote>
