Message: <blockquote data-quote="weedy1" data-source="post: 101707" data-attributes="member: 1299"><p><span style="color: #333333"><span style="font-family: 'Proxima-Nova'">You must have missed the recent CBS news coverage on the effectiveness of headlights in new automobiles.  They tested 30 models of cars and found all but one (foreign of course) did not illuminate the road for a far enough distance ahead for the driver to stop with an obstacle in the road.  For one of the vehicles any speed over 35 mph would cause the driver to not be capable of stopping without hitting the obstacle.  According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. IIHS recommends that drivers use their car's high beams more frequently to improve visibility on the road.</span></span></p><p><span style="color: #333333"><span style="font-family: 'Proxima-Nova'"></span></span></p><p><span style="color: #333333"><span style="font-family: 'Proxima-Nova'">They don't make cars like they used to and they certainly don't make headlights like they used to as well.  I'd rather have an approaching driver be bothered by my bright lights than not be able to see the road in front of me for a safe distance to stop.  I do dim down on 2 lane roadways as you can use the lights of the approaching car to help you see your own lane ahead.  On divided highways this just doesn't work.</span></span></p><p><span style="color: #333333"><span style="font-family: 'Proxima-Nova'"></span></span></p><p><span style="color: #333333"><span style="font-family: 'Proxima-Nova'">It appears that the advice from dad and grandpa isn't as good as it once was!</span></span></p></blockquote><p></p>
