I dont really like bait casting reels for summer fishing so it was a way to use a good reel and to use up an old fishing rod that otherwise would have been tossed and actually have a reel instead of hand over hand pulling a fish in. also at that time I ran a test on smelt,&nbsp; an old timer told me to color my smelt with red food coloring and catch more pike. my test results were that I did catch a lot more pike on the red colored than natural smelt.</blockquote>
