I suppose that back channel eventually sedimented in with blowing sands, etc.  </p><p></p><p>Again, if I had to guess, I'd bet it was installed to try and encourage that portion of Mr Johnson's land to accumulate sand and allow for eventual development.  It's done along the east coast of the U.S. all the time, sometimes it works...other times it creates more problems.</p></blockquote><p></p>
