What if this guy, or any other person, was shooting at an actual deer missed and there happened to be another hunter they didn't see and that hunter gets hit? He openly admits to not being able to see or identify his target correctly. Two different stories from the two articles below but either way it proves he did not positively ID his target and assumed. Quote: The 38-year-old man told authorities he was up in his deer stand north of Cotton. He saw antlers and thought it was a deer, so he shot twice. He told officers glare from the sun and tree cover made it hard to see the animal. He texted another member of his hunting party saying, he messed up and shot a moose. If a person cannot correctly identify something this different then they need to get punished accordingly by the states laws, if you are ok with not 100% identifying a target and just letting a bullet fly then I darn sure don't want to be anywhere near you with a gun. I'm sure he isn't going to get hung too bad, especially if he turned himself in learning his mistake later but he needs to get punished.
