the price of some of this exotic shot is insane. having to use steel shot is assinine anyway.

I like the hevi metal shells, can usually find for 20 to 25 a box and I can live with that. Way fewer cripples for me with this. If using steel, then it is Federal. As for the new Hevi shot loads, I imagine it will be priced 30 to 35 a box so I will probably pass unless I get the chance to go goose hunting again.

Cool in theory. As a theoretical expert, I have to wonder whether you can quantify the results, i.e. rate of recovered or lost birds between this fancy stuff and Federal blue box.

Me thinks this mousetrap doth need no reinvention. I miss just as well with the cheap stuff.

More pellets on target is what hevi metal is all about BS can't compete, hevi metal is a duplex load as we called it years ago shooting lead, super good kill load of #2's,#4;s and sometimes #6's in each shell.

Hevi metal for example in #2's is 50% steel #2's and 50% #4 in hevi shot, the smaller diameter pellets gives each shot shell 20% more pellets in each shot shell which puts more pellets on target and more lethal kills not cripples. This pic will show ya what I mean.Only hevi metal does not use copper claddiong on the steel shot but you can see the different pellet sizes.

Speedball has a full shot cup like all hevi ammo, the cork ball creates compression its how speedbal attains 1650fps and the flax seed is used to pack the pellets tight/filler with crimp instead of a buffer.

Last couple years Hevi Shot had rebates,$5/box and $50/flat (10boxes) for hevi metal which makes it more affordable@$20/box plus the rebate, but yeah regular hevi shot is way spendy@$4/shell and no rebate.Hevi Shot tells me the chinese are buying up all the precious metals they can for the military driving up the cost of tungsen iron and other metals.

Hevi Shot pellets are made up of "tungsen iron, nickel and tin" hence the heavy dense pellets 10% heavier than lead pellets and heavy price tag,but man does the load give ya lethal range,so much so I rarely shoot 3.5's other than shooting the 10ga.Today I use what hevi shot I have left for the 3rd shot if needed, hevi metal does a great job as it is at $.75/shell.

remm,3" hevi metal in 11/4 oz loads is 1500fps,I do know when we tracked target loads crossing shots@ 40yds the difference in lead between 1200fps and 1350fps was 1",so not a big diff at all if you compare 1500fps to 1650fps.
