This is a part of the issue that they are facing when it comes to their deficit. School leaders say they are down around $1.3 million in their budget because of the low enrollment.</p><p></p><p>They say the problem is only getting worse, and they could be down $6 million by this fall. The school board is now asking the schools to see if they can come up with creative ways to save money.</p><p></p><p>“Otherwise, they may end up closing an elementary school, but they are looking at every other option first. We’re looking at everything from soup to nuts. Everything from how we enroll kids to which courses we’re offering. How do we balance that in a way that we can operate and still keep the needs of our students in the forefront,” said Mark Vollmer, the superintendent of Minot Public Schools.</p><p></p><p>He encourages the public to attend the school board meetings.
