When I first learned about that in high school, it came off as wrong. And now over two decades later, I still can't fathom it. </p><p></p><p>I also don't get how something you own outright can still be taken away from you if you don't pay recurring taxes on it. A little old bitty out in the country could get kicked off the farm because she has no income, even though her house has been paid off for years.</p><p></p><p>There are things that taxes can help with in a modern society. I'm ok that my money fixes roads and goes to schools and even conservation, but do it once. Tax the things I buy. Unless you build everything you need or grow it, you're a consumer. Tax that. Leave my income and my property out of it.</p></blockquote><p></p>
