I taught for 13 years. There was so much about it that I enjoyed and education is something I'm still very passionate about. There's still a lot about it I miss. With that said, it's not a profession where majority of people would last even a week. Couple that with the fact there's no way you're making ends meet on the average teacher salary. Let's address proficiency on standardized tests. A student's education is more than a test score. Some of the brightest most successful students I had didn't have the highest standardized test scores. But they were smart enough to go start their own business revolving around their passion and make more than I did as their teacher... Kids aren't the same as they were even 10 years ago. And we've gotten to a point where teachers have to wear many more hats than they used to. In many cases, teachers are also the support system for their students because kids aren't getting that support at home. Often times it's because mom and dad are working multiple jobs to make ends meet. It's a complex situation and teachers get thrown into the middle of it. But I guess all that matters is making sure a kid gets a high score on math.... As for administration pay... You couldn't pay me enough to take that job on. The pressure is unreal. Standardized tests. LOTS of behavior issues. Making the call to send buses when the weather is shit. Scheduling. Budgeting. Managing staff. Parents complaining and straight up bullying you when their kid is in the wrong... That's just scratching the surface... No thanks.
