Not bashing Semi Autos in the least, but hunting out of a layout blind where dust, dirt, rocks, chaff, and all manner of material falls onto your gun has caused most of the popular makes and models of semi auto to jam, misfeed, stove pipe rounds, or some other such event which causes the hunter to miss opportunities at birds. I've personally witnessed it. I've watched Benelli's, Winchesters, Remingtons, Mossbergs, Brownings, Berettas, and a few european jobs fail to cycle, fire, or jam after a few repetitions of coming out of a layout blind. I've had to watch the frustration and disappointment in some very good friends eyes when their guns don't work and I can't help but feel bad for'em. A good cleaning later and they are working fine. Time afield is precious. Too precious to have equipment that can let you down IMO. That's why I shoot what has worked EVERY TIME for me. Flame me if you feel the need, but when I want to kill stuff, you'll see me carrying Bertha or a sister of hers until I can no longer participate in the scatter gun sports. They just flat out shoot, regardless of the conditions.
