Great job by the roofers! Also kudos to the guy for still being able to get out fishing at 96.

BURLEIGH COUNTY, N.D. - Two Bismarck contractors are being called heroes after saving a 96-year-old man from drowning on the Missouri River.
The two were working on a roof near Misty Waters Marina Friday and say they heard faint screams calling for help.
The men raced down to the river and found the 96-year-old WWII veteran struggling to hold onto the cracking ice. They say they jumped into action without thinking.
"It was just adrenaline kicked in and just trying to get him out of (the river), you know. Fast and out before, you know, more ice broke or anything like that; Get him in, get him warmed up and just call the ambulance," said contractor, Robert Brendel.
The men briefly visited the veteran in the hospital and say he's recovering and even offered to take them fishing.

That is one tough old guy

Roofers (brothers) thought they heard something over the music of their radio. One of the guys turned off the radio. Sure enough. Robert Brendel jumped from the second story roof to the garage roof and then both to the ground. He said it took 3 minutes to get to the old guy. Thank God it turned out the way it did.

Here is the picture of the heros that saved the WWII veteran. Two brothers one goes by David Teal. Robert Brendel is his brother. They deserve some recognition from all of us if you can give 'em a shout out.

Great way to meet a new fishing buddy! Good work of that whole deal. The river will likely be going out here in the next couple days so people best play it smart.

What’s most impressive is a 96 year old man going out fishing on his own. I know plenty of folks A LOT younger that don’t have that kind of ambition.

Those guys are tougher than we ever will be. Homesteading out in ND at the turn of the last century and living off the land in the winter with nowhere to go for shelter other than their sod huts ... we will never be put in the situations that they put themselves for 160 acres of land and a better life for their families. My cousin has his Father living with him in Phoenix and his Father will be 100 in August. I think it is great that he and his wife are keeping his Father at home instead of visiting him a senior living place. My hat's off to him.
