Without question, this was the greatest day of walleye fishing I've ever had. We launched on Lake Superior expecting to troll for suspended walleyes like everyone else, but despite plenty of bait and seemingly perfect conditions, something just wasn't adding up. Then I turned on LiveScope and discovered something I had never seen before—the walleyes weren't anywhere near the bottom. Instead, they were suspended in the top 5 feet of the water column over 25 to 35 feet of water, feeding on bait concentrated in a warm surface layer.

Once we changed our approach and started casting to individual fish instead of trolling over them, everything changed. Fish after fish ate our presentations, and the day quickly turned into one I'll never forget. Along the way I landed more trophy walleyes than I would normally catch in an entire season, including my biggest walleye ever—a beautiful 30.25-inch giant.

In this video, I walk through exactly how we discovered the pattern, why the walleyes were positioned so high in the water column, how we were able to trigger bites, and the lessons that can help you recognize similar situations on your own waters. While LiveScope helped reveal what was happening beneath the surface, the real takeaway is understanding fish behavior and being willing to adapt when the fish don't follow the "rules."

You may be wondering why I'm only sharing this video now. I intentionally waited until this pattern had long since ended before uploading it because I didn't want to put unnecessary fishing pressure on these fish while the bite was happening. Now that it's over, I'm excited to share the entire experience and hopefully help you recognize a pattern you might otherwise overlook.
