Small dams and reservoirs across North Dakota can be incredible ice fishing opportunities for crappie. There are many of of these overlooked waters with panfish like bluegill, perch or crappie and some of these tiny, unassuming lakes can grow some gigantic panfish.
In this video, Jason Mitchell targets small dam structure and breaks down how creek and river channels running through these reservoirs consistently hold crappie or bluegill. These underwater channels act as travel routes and top locations include points, flats or any submerged wood near the old channel. Much of the info available for locating panfish on natural lakes that is currently available is worthless on these small reservoirs because these little dams and reservoirs do fish much differently.
We offer some examples and processes of how we use our electronics to find and catch fish. When fish are spooky, we just try to set up on the line fish are using and wait fish out. We show the overview of the presentation. You’ll also see the Clam Drop tungsten jig and soft plastic combinations that are deadly for crappie.
If you’re looking to catch more crappie through the ice on small waters in western North Dakota, this video will hopefully motivate you and inspire you. There are so many really cool opportunities to explore and check out.
