Woke up to 6-8" of heavy snow. It's 13* and the winds 21mph here so it's a little brisk this morning. Or as they say it's nipply out.

I did see on the news yesterday that Flagstaff is suppose to get 14.5 inches. :bigpuke:

Weather channel is saying 5-8". Weather underground is calling for 12+". They still have no idea. Hope it's on the lighter side.

I don't know what to think. I just hope people don't get tricked into thinking they were suppose to wake up to their cars being buried and then figure it is safe to venture out. On the other hand, this thing is barely producing a strong rain band near Colorado/Nebraska/Kansas borders. If they did overestimate it, I won't bitch and complain.

Wife and I are going to skype her family as we open gifts. Then it's nothing but party pizzas and whatever Tv series we decide to knock out in one day. If I had blanks, I'd be painting today.

...Major Storm Still On The Way...
...Do Not Be Fooled By What You See Outside Right Now...

Most folks across western and central North Dakota were waking up
this Christmas morning, looking outside, and wondering what happened
to the storm. Do not be fooled. It is on the way. Things will look
very much different later today.

Moisture was streaming up through Nebraska and into South Dakota
this morning ahead of the storm, and will be arriving into North
Dakota later.

Ice storm warnings are in effect for Lamoure...Dickey...and Mcintosh
counties. This is the area south of Jamestown. A blizzard warning is
in effect for the rest of western and central North Dakota.

Already this morning the Williston area had around three inches of
snow. Some flurries and freezing drizzle were over other parts of
the region. Careful if heading outside this morning, and be ready
for a big change later today.

The incoming storm is so intense that thundersnow, a thunderstorm
with heavy snow, is possible in the Bismarck to Linton area this
afternoon.

Sweet, its been many years since I've seen lightning and thunder in a snow storm. :;:howdy

Been pretty cool seeing this thing come together on radar the last couple of hours. Cut off low in Idaho, lee side low cranking up in Colorado and warm front east to the Ohio Valley. Then I go strap some tanks and think this is not so cool. Haha

Made a 30 hour trip to Bismarck and cobbled together a couple nice Christmas gatherings with her family and mine. (Special thanks to family for shuffling Christmas schedules to accommodate.) I was really impressed with the existing snow pack in Bismarck. My folks' neighborhood is already buried with snow piled 4-5' high on both sides of the street. Ditches are full. Hoping to make it to church in Fargo at 11:00... we'll see.

The two model runs I looked at have it cranking up around 10 or a touch later with one saying 15 for Bismark and the other 16.3.

East wind while the heaviest snow falls the first half of the storm then switching to the NW tomorrow at 50+mph should make for some interesting drifts, if things wen't plugged up from the first few go rounds they will be after this one.

Think that's called your screwed snow because it doesn't matter which way your house is facing your screwed! Radar is definitely starting to fill in over western SD now so here she comes.

Started raining here 35 miles east of Pierre about 30 minutes ago . Doors are already froze shut on the truck . With this wind it could get really ugly . Talking a half inch or more ice build up .

Drifting the high plains
Foggy here north of Jamestown. There is a light freezing mist on the windows. The kids and grandkids were all here yesterday, but hit the road last night to get out of Dodge and get home. One boy and his kids headed back to western Montana yesterday evening about 6:00pm and thought he would be home by 2:00am. Long late drive. It looks slippery out and I would skip church if I didn't have to usher. Be safe guys.

Does anyone know how much snow Bismarck has officially for the year?

ive wondered that too dean.

the airport is the "official" measuring station in bis. I think there canbe quite a discrepancy in totals as KX on north side of town had 24.1" on hat big one and airport had 18.7". from if I add the 18.7 + 6.5 on that windy fkr, +3" on that one Friday/Saturday were low end pushing 30" high end 35"+
