I was at the 100 yard range south of Bismarck on Sunday. I was the last guy in the group to get their target hung/examined. I was about 50 yards back to the bench, while everyone else had already made it back and some jackwagon fired off a round.

Just want to remind people that you need to practice safety when at the range and take a damn look to make sure it is clear to fire. If this is too inconvenient for you, please sell your guns and don't come to the range anymore. Maybe take up something like knitting where you don't have the chance to kill someone by your complete lack of common sense, brains, and firearm safety. ;:;rant

same deal happened to me and my daughter in September, except we were still down range checking our target when the only dumbass there fired off a round. luckily we were on opposite ends of the range. lucky for him my daughter was around so I showed restraint. that place is a joke and needs either a full time attendant or some sort of flag system that CLEARLY indicates someone is downrange. haven't been and won't be back there, ever again. i'll drive to wilton or south of Mandan before I step there ever again. I too do not like having rounds from the other two ranges still going off while you are down range. extremely unsafe in my opinion.

Three years ago while down there, the 100 yard range was quite full, so we started using the 200 yard range. Shot a few times and went to check targets when another person decided to use the 200 yard as well. He hung targets, walked back to about 100 yards from the targets and started shooting prone. We had to wait for him to be done and get up and check his targets. Dumb.

Haven't been back.

Are there range rules posted down there ? If not there should be, BIG AND BOLD and in a location where you can't miss them.

I really wish they would install a safety system, where with the flick of a switch a flashing light and siren would go off indicating someone is down range.

And yes, I was not too please, yelled my obscenities from across the range, but did not get in his face.

Same thing happened to me at the range in Jamestown when it was open. I was at the 200 yard target and just about ready to walk back when someone 2 benches down fired off a round.

Others there chewed him out before I got back.

I'm about the most laid-back dude you've ever seen that doesn't smoke weed. Yet, an instant like that would turn me savage. I'm not sure how you kept your cool, but I'm pretty sure that's a good way to get your rifle barrel bent around your neck.

When I first got into shooting I was somewhat imbaresed by my old man jumping on anyone that even touched there guns at the bench while someone was down range. I also thought he was a dick for sending everyone else to check targets while he stayed on the firing line. Now im the grouchy old guy that makes sure everyone knows the rules. After having a friend loose a child for a lack of judgment I have no problem being that guy.

My Dad was a hard ass on me about gun safety and now i am a hard ass on my kid but it is second nature to always have the gun on safe and pointed in a safe direction. Even in the excitement of shooting his first buck he put the gun back on safe before i even told him to

Bismarck -- at least your dealing with english speaking individuals.

.223 hot empties hitting my body Nobody stops shooting. They all look at you like you need to check a target. The AR / handgun craze ruined the public ranges here. The only time it was good is when ammo was hard to get or high priced.
