They wanted to raise the speed limit on the interstates to 80. Hell, most drivers already drive that now anyway. If they had made it 80, most people would drive 85.

Yeah well people made that same argument at 55.

My son's a cop. He says you can't believe how many people don't even know the simplest rules of the road. It's mind boggling. Our drivers education system is in unacceptable it appears.

I really like the no blinker people. Lots of fun.

Man in his 60's driving a Platinum edition F150 driving eastbound on I-94 passes me and then slows down and I pass him 4-5 times over 50Mi. Bone dry roads, good weather. Didn't have his cruise set, just driving along oblivious. We get to the exit I need, I'm following him, no blinker. He's hugging the left side like he's turning left @ end of off-ramp. Nope, across my nose, no blinker. 2-blocks down the road he just about stops in the middle of the road trying to decide if he's stopping for gas or not, no blinker. I'm stopping, kiddo's need a bathroom break. So, I pull up to the diesel pump close to him. I tell him, "That sure is a nice truck, looks like it's got every option they offer." He replies, "Yep, sunroof, navigation, blah, blah, blah." and drones on about what it's got. When he finishes, I remark to him, "If I was you, I'd make sure then next truck like that I ordered came with cruise control and blinkers, because that one surely doesn't have them or you'd have used them."

If you can imagine the look on the face of a 10yr old who's just been told that their new puppy can't stay home and has to go to heaven, that's the look I got back from Mr. No-Cruise/blinkers.

The, "I pull out on this 2-lane (or any intersection really) every day to head to town for coffee and there's never anyone coming so I don't need to slow down much, or look for traffic." people are even less fun than the no-blinker people.

One step closer to the end.
I have traveled a little in the day.

A different spin on the thread.

Of all the states I have been too, somewhat surprisingly Hawaii had the best drivers IMO.
There was no road rage going on, even in Honolulu you didn't hear people honking their horns, thinking they had the right of way over everyone else. And what amazed me the most was how courteous the drivers were, letting you merge and the like. It was very refreshing to drive there.

My thinking as time has gone by, "everyone" is starting to drive more and more like they are Nascar drivers. Swerving in/out of lanes (without directionals), speeding and not understanding how to exit/enter onto a multi-laned highway. Like others, I feel pretty safe with my driving, even in inclement weather, its the other people out there that make me cringe and wish I was at home. : )

I'm happy I was able to drive in MT during the "Safe and Prudent" period of the late 90's. But, I'm sad that period has ended.

Bismarck has to be the epicenter.

Come to grand forks on a weekend and deal with all the Canadians who cant drive for shit and all the old beet farmers with their new pickups who drive around 10 mph under the speed limit and don't use their blinkers and you may change your mind.

I went to college at UND, and yes the Canadians are bad drivers...but to be honest there was a noticeable difference moving back to Bismarck. Bismarck has the worst, slowest, most oblivious and clueless drivers period.

I literally had the same thing happen to me on I94 a couple weeks ago, but it was an older car, maybe a white 90s Buick if I remember and the SOB passed me going 85-90 at least five times. I'm never in a hurry, had the cruise set at 72. There were times I'd go to pass them again, and they'd speed up as I was passing them so I couldn't, but would never look over at me so I couldn't flip them the bird.

Had an older gentlemen with his wife pass me in his 80s Ford F250 with a 30'plus stock trailer pass me last November. Asshole then pulled into my lane like he didn't a trailer attached so I locked my brakes up and moved halfway out of my lane near the ditch, narrowly missing the final 10' of trailer.... I've never been so mad, luckily I had a friend who answered the phone so I could blow off my steam.

I agree. I feel part of the problem is getting your license is almost too easy. Also after you get it you really aren't ever re-tested (assuming you don't loose it). Not one for getting the gov't more involved in our lives but I don't think it would be such a bad deal to have mandatory re-testing every so often. Getting your license renewed doesn't involve much (new photo and make sure you aren't blind). Driving is a big responsibility that most people don't seem to take very seriously (especially defensive driving). Holding people more accountable for their actions might be the only way to get them to pay attention.
