Thank God some in this state had the smarts to provide funding to buy out wetlands in north dakota, because you would end up with what is happening in Ohio and other states. And no, im not a big fan of opening up federal land to be developed because once that happens, the land is lost forever.

Old timers could see what was coming in the 1950's. They saw what happened during the dust bowl. Look no further than Iowa and MN. If thats the future you want for ND, then by all means hop on the drain tile train.

How would the fed gov even begin to divest of the hundreds of millions/billions of dollars spent to purchase these easements with duck stamps? The golden child of modern conservation programs....Just wipe them off the books? Must be nice to be a farmer. Just destroy the goal posts when you dont like how the game went.

It’s awesome being a farmer. Subsidies and handouts as far as the eye can see.

It's hard to keep everyone happy because a lot of people paint a big picture on both ends of the spectrum at the same time. Complain about loss of habitat and then complain about people who choose to do the right thing.

We need a new farm bill, to protect all our "producers"
And we need an "All the above energy plan"
Says milk toast JOHN HOEVEN ALL THE TIME!

He is an empty suit, as everyone knows there is no money in farming, just ask the farmers who embrace the green deal and suck the tit of the wind farms which would not exist if not for the generous subsidies of we the people.
Talk about a transfer of wealth........

Need to get the government out of the farming business, among lots of other things, but what is happening is unsustainable

And everyone bitches about the price of groceries, so much that we are on the brink of mandating free lunches for all in our state constitution. Where do I sign up for the handouts? I need to get me some!

And in the next breath all I hear on here is let’s expand crp and we need govt money to expand places to hunt. Can’t have it both ways. I’m all for getting govt out of everything. It will never happen cause they like the control. I opted out of the farm program this year. Everyone says you can’t farm without the govt. I guess we will see.

Then why do you need to make a statement when someone is talking sbout those who do not care about conservation. Majority here including ndlondshot know that this discussion isnt about you, even posting in a sarcastic matter doesn't change what isnt being discussed about those farmers who want to drain every pot hole to get a few more acres of tillable land. North Dakota, i believe is heading towards another drought like we had in the late 80s which was even worse off because of those who drained pot holes decades earlier.
Drain tile isnt always the answer

not me, I don't want any part of expanding CRP, landowners post it anyways, so lets get rid of every single handout, including CRP

And on a side note, pay hunting sucks

Draining easements wasn’t enough. Let’s drain public WPA’s too.

CRP isn't a handout. It's a rental agreement. The govt. rents the land for so much an acre and then the govt. decides not to farm it for the duration of the agreement. I despise handouts just as much as the next guy, but we have to keep it real and be honest about what crp actually is. I could rent 160 acres for 15 years at 35 bucks an acre and do the same thing if I wanted to.

Yea I get all that, so who is the govt.? Its we the taxpayers thats who it is. So we pay a farmer not to farm, and he gets paid to seed it to grass, and it becomes a private hunting preserve for the farmer and usually posted up solid.
Thats my beef.
I am all for conservation and habitat improvement, just seems that I should have access to it if I am funding it.
Its a no win situation.

So take it up with the government. Seems your beef is with them. The govt. makes ALL the decisions with a crp contract. I was in that program for 17 years. I want it gone as well, due to the fact that the govt. can change the contract midstream and the landowner can not. Look at it this way. If the govt. wanted to rent your garage for $1000 a month and then not fill it, but give you the right to still use it, you would. I would, and so would most other people. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want your neighbor using it, just because he pays taxes.

I thought I said get the govt out of the handout business in my first post that you quoted, so my original post was a beef against the govt >< handouts = govt.
