Question for you guys. I have one of the old kmart strickmasters. Had it stored in a shed since the late 90's. Unfortunately sometime during its storage a leak developed and water was able to fall on the power head and now its locked up. Is there any use trying to break the thing down and trying to free it or is she pretty much scrap. Could be as simple as the recoil spring being locked up or the cylinders being seized so just wondering if anyone has tryed it before.

Small engine repair can be frustrating as hell. I'd either pay someone else to fix it or toss it but that's just me. I have enough shit to work on as it is.

chipper for this guy. had the lazer blades on my last strikemaster and now have a strikemaster with chipper. I would like to get the honda 4 stroke and run a chipper blade. maybe next year.

Blades being equally sharp, the SM lazer bit cuts much faster than the SM chipper bit IME. However, the chipper is more reliable.

Last year I bought a Honda light 4stk Strikemaster and Wade at Dakota tackle suggested I don't use the lazer blades. So I have chipper on 8" auger and really like the set up.

Best auger / blade I have touched.

So torque is not an issue? The 4 strokes are glorious - but they don't exactly want to twist out of your hands (fine with me BTW)

I ran a 10" chipper with my Honda up at Winnipeg last year. It worked fine.

That's the thing I was going to throw it away but then it occurred to me I had nothing to lose cracking it open and seeing if its something simple. If it isn't then of to the dump the power head goes.

Soak/bathe everything non-electronic in this miracle elixir for a week. Take plug out, fill the cylinder with MMO, replace plug. Tip it around every few days, etc.

Take the spark plug out and push on the piston with an plastic stick like object so you don't bung up the threads for the spark plug or damage the piston. If the piston does not move it is obviously stuck. You can spray a bunch of penetrating oil in there and let it sit for a while and then try tapping on the piston to free it. If that doesn't work, you can say eff it.

Do you guys know of anybody using the K-drill with the Honda head? I have the Honda and love it but have thought about a chipper fighting for when i fish the Missouri. Thinking k-drill might be a better option.

The k-drill is designed to spin a whole lot faster than what the Honda head will put out. I bet it would work, but be very slow since the k-drill takes such shallow "bites".

k-drill would work best on a Tanaka head if you are looking for a gas powered unit.

yep blows it of the shore we dont have any sand bars down here. There are times you dont have to worry about traction as it looks like some one spread sand for a guy.

i say take it apart. the only thing daunting about small engines in my mind is the recoil. i always struggle with putting those back together for some reason. maybe because i don't do it enough. every thing else on a small engine is just a glorified erector set to me. pretty simple mechanics imho. we had one go to the bottom of the lake with the vehicle. probably 15-20 years ago now. it is a lightning legend 2 hp. i took it apart and had it in quite a few pieces. took a look at the piston, made sure the bore was rust free, some new gaskets, cleaned up all moving parts, lubed it and put it back together. still runs great. a little underpowered for the 9 inch auger with the chipper blades. but, it always was.

You are a wise man, anything worth thinking about is worth an ice cold Busch light.

Thanks for the help guys will be giving it a try both tearing it down and soaking what I can. I tore down and rebult a few Briggs & Strattons for my go kart when I was kid but its been a long time but luckily there is no pressure on this one... If it doesn't work no big deal! U mad. Why the hate on the mag 2000? I have beaten the living crap out of mine and it still runs great. I'm going to order a kdrill for a nice light weight option when hole Hopping.
