I would just rather find another section line to go down instead of mowing down some guys crop, but that's just me. Apparently there are only a few of "me" left around. There is a fine line between being an asshole and being educated asshole. Why do you think more and more land gets posted up? If I had land, I would post it tighter than a nuns pussy to keep asshats off! Next thing you know, there will be a law suit because of some hunter fell in a hole on non posted land and broke his foot. Its the farmers fault right?
Tommyboy I was only trying to make a point that the section line is public access. Just like every gravel road we drive down is owned by the farmers. Just like someone said you see farmers posting section lines all the time because some people think that a dirt trail is only accessible. I didn't mean to say that it would be ok to drive down an farmers planted crop to prove a point. There is a fine line between sportsman and land owners which we have a responsibility to respect.

Not sure why we need to hash this over every year. It's pretty damn simple and straight forward. Unless a section line has been closed by the township board, which rarely ever happens, it is open for travel. Doesn't matter if it has an established trail. Doesn't matter if some farmer dug it up. Doesn't matter if it's a 6' tall corn field. Doesn't matter if it's fenced. No one can legally block a section line that has not been closed by the township. You can bet your ass most landowners know the law and will try anything they can to keep people from land they have a legal right to access. They count on people not knowing their rights to get away with it. Educate yourself and don't be buffaloed by an asshole!

"most"??

Sometimes peoples perceptions of others are a direct reflection of themselves they are unwilling to see.

That's cute gst. Trying to make it look like something it's not. You obviously don't agree that most landowners know the law? Or that there is indeed an asshole or 3 out there??

No argument here. Just stating the facts. And no the landowner cannot be sued in that situation, this too is spelled out in the century code which you apparently have never read.

Nope. I have never read it.

You obviously have. Was it one of your book club assignments? Should I put it on my read list?

Lol, he wouldn't really have had to read the century code because his post had nothing original all points of his post had all ready been stated as facts. :;:stirthepot

I run into this every year. Same guy. The land beyond is half public and half private. I have permission to hunt the private. Many people would like to access the lake to fish. It's a section line, and an improved minimum maintenance road. He will push snow for 1/4 mile to get enough to block the road. Why?

Ramp for a sled? :;:

This guy just appears to be an asshat.

What does the century code say about snow removal? Maybe he only cleans the road that is on his land? Maybe he feels that the county should do the rest? :;:huh

I know first hand how some disrespectful people can be towards private land and also know how disrespectful some landowners can be towards respectful people but they shouldn't all be grouped together. If I had a need to use that road I'd go to a county commissioners meeting and tell them some poor bugger could come sailing along on a snowblind day and plow into it and get hurt. Once the county knows about a hazard the liability is on them if it ever happens.

There are roads that you can drive on to the lake but yes they have 55 gallon barrels with a road closed sign, I just slide one of the barrels over so I can go around BUT I return the barrel to it spot and proceed to the lake. I have never had a issue with the farmer because he lives on the road. He has never hassled me about it because I respect the barrels. The barrel is more of a form of respect as to "if you can move the barrel you can put it back". There is another section road in the same area where someone dumped two big piles of dirt and rock on top of road, but just enough room to drive around them.

There is a farmstead off of 281 that is on a section line that runs through a person's yard that leads to Irvine. At one time that was the only way to get onto the lake but the owner has put up a rope knowing full well that road is on a section line. I have used that road before but I respect the rope by putting it back up after proceeding either in or out. These barricades would look like to some not knowing they are illegal obstacles, but for me it's a sign of respect to the people who live on these section lines. I will respect the barrel, the rope, and the rock pile and take it at face value. There are lots of spots like this in the Devils Lake basin.

There is one example of a section line being closed to the public by dry lake it cost the owner some cash to do it but has a nice boat launch that can be only used by him or those who have permission. He had to get a sign made to advise the public of.the change in access.

I would like to clarify if some think that my comment is based on Praireghost picture comment. His picture clearly shows that this in a public road that allows traffic through. These section lines are not closed but would not be considered through traffic because they lead into the drink. I would consider it to be more like a cattle gate one examples exception would be the two big piles of dirt and rock, which is off of RC10 going west. That's just pure butt head move to whoever dumped them there.

I have no idea how versed in the ND Century Code most landowners are.

Indeed there are assholes out there, maybe even a good half dozen or more...............but you pretty clearly suggested/inferred that "most" are assholes. It is why I hi lighted with quotations that particular word.

I merely suggested if one thinks "most" people in one group are assholes, perhaps sometimes it is in how a person presents themselves to that particular group.

Maybe not, perhaps "most" landowners are indeed "assholes" like you suggested.

I don't feel most landowners aholes some are and you can say the same of hunters. Some show no respect for landowners others do, the ones showing respect usually get to hunt.
