There's something to be said about that. I don't know anyone who owns a Branson or Mahindra, but at their price-point, I can't imagine there aren't a lot more around than I once thought. I drive green (JD), and have for pretty much my entire life. Started with a B and 70, moved on up to an...

    Eating fish eggs

Ah hah, that's why I never ran across them. Sushi and sashimi are not on my list of things to eat. Rice better be fried, fish need to be cooked, and WTF is with that sea weed (kelp?) wrapping?

    Eating fish eggs

Oddly, while I agree the Asian people tend to be fine connoisseurs of the odd, I don't remember seeing them as an option. Water bugs, minnows in a glass of water, squirming octopus on the plate, larvae, fried flies, monkey, dog, and bolut (baked bird in the shell) are all on the menu depending...

    Eating fish eggs

Hah, over a beer a couple months ago, a buddy and I both mentioned we had never tried caviar and was wondering if it was as big of a deal as the rich and famous make it out to be. $150 for 2 ounces of paddlefish caviar from Amazon, some $40 worth of blini and sour cream later, only to discover...

    Snowpocalypse

Nothing worth doing is very easy as a rule, but gotta hand it to you...you were the first to recognize that this one was going to fall short of expectations across a large area. Which does happen occasionally, but I think that's often due to using too broad of a brush to make sure the...

    Snowpocalypse

It doesn't take a genius to expect a spring snow or rain event in late March or early April. After Jan and Feb, monthly precip totals do nothing but go up, so using anything 90 days out to say it was expected because of XXX is fairly ridiculous. It's kind of like saying "90 days after a spring...

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but don't look at the backend of the models for next weekend. Too far out for much certainty, but thus far it looks like a "rinse and repeat" of this week.

I come to social media sites like NDA to get my estimates for ice thickness because there are no official estimates or measurements of ice thickness. There are similarities between the two, but also some notable differences. Snow is actually great insulation, so early heavy snows like the...

    Snowpocalypse

Frost depth has a fair number of variables. How bare is the ground? Has it been tilled? How wet or dry is the soil compared to normal? Have you had deep snow cover, or has it been near nothing this winter? When your area gets to 20+ degrees, is it sunny or cloudy? Is the referenced site in...

    Tree row rehabilitation?

On that list, there's a big drawback to cedars if you enjoy berries like juneberries. Cedar trees are a carrier of Cedar-Apple rust, a type of fungus. The juneberry plants look fine, fruit out nicely, and then the fruit dries up into little pieces of gravel right before you're ready to...

I am going to hazard a guess they were mostly seeking grants through the city? Reason I ask (not specifically to you, Davey) is because the most common disqualifier for using something as matching money in a grant request is to try and double-dip from the same group of taxpayers. Right, people are missing the obvious when it comes to why the private schools tend to do well in sports. I don't know if those are paper hulls or the generation between then and now. Nonetheless, you have a dozen of them. Certainly not old enough yet to be really valuable on the collector's market, nor on the reloadable market. If they are in your (my?) way, in the garbage they go.

    O Central ND PPR area.

I went out to New John's on Sunday. Just walked out from the north ramp and drilled some holes. Lots of little perch in 17-18 ft of water, nothing worth keeping. Ice was still about 15 inches (guesstimate), but lots of water on top of the ice from melting snow. Still, fishing through the ice...

    Bis to lose boat ramp

    Pontoons for fishing?

Yeah, one can, especially down on Oahe or the flats of Sak where you're not trying to stick along an irregular shoreline. But if you do that on most of Sak you are going to get a lot of tangles when trying to keep a particular depth on a shoreline.

    Boats seats

Kind of the same concept as mesh office chairs. We have a few, and while they are not my preference for my desk, they are pretty comfy. I think I'd like them more in the boat. Perhaps a lot more. Especially if they were as durable as my now 20-year-old vinyl-covered Lund boat seats.

    Bismarck high water.

The general idea was to create waves that would put Archimedes Principle into effect by creating waves that would lift and break up some ice. I am kind of torn on how effective it really was on a 3+ mile long ice jam. An argument could probably be made that every little bit helps.

    Bismarck high water.

Ice breakers are heavy, they run into thick ice and they ride up on top to push it down and break it. The draft of them is considerably more (I'd guess 8-10 ft for even a small, light duty ice breaker) than our average walleye boats which are often less than 2 ft. We don't have many boat ramps...
