Took the daughters to a Youth Pheasant hunt put on by Richland County Pheasant Inc/Richland County Wildlife Club. Met and talked to some great people, good dogs and I believe 15 kids total (my daughters were the only girls) I believe 46-48 roosters were brought in. They get the kids hands on with all the cleaning and various methods, the daughters really enjoyed getting hands on.
Sunday I took a buddy and his 15yr old step son that I have recently got to know with my dogs around home. First push was stuff on our farm I have never hunted much but due to the zero water in the old beaver damn areas, the wind and the right people we gave it a go. Got lots of hens and a few roosters up, missed getting my safety on and they lobbed a shot. 3rd spot was a newer PLOTS area and the dogs finally got a rooster up and they both put a shot on it, good thing for the dogs because it could still run and they ended up finding it. It was the young mans first time behind dogs and he did great following my instructions on watching what they were doing, it was his first pheasant ever so that was fun.
Pretty soon I won't even have to carry a gun, I can just carry extra shells and run the dogs and that would be ok with me most days
