    Fkn catepillars.....

When I was a grade schooler, I spent a Saturday one summer taking out potato beetles in the garden. I'd never seen them before, but they were lousy thick. Filled my Super Soaker and had the hose ready for reload. Would knock them off the leaves and then grind them into the dirt with my feet...

    Trolling with Spoons

Grandpa Ray lived on a tanin-stained lake in the Iron Range. Later on in life he got a nice AlumaCraft Deluxe console boat with a 60 horse gas motor (which is in my garage as we speak). But what I remember most about Grandpa Ray and that lake was his small aluminum boat. The seats would get so...

    Fifth Crow Wing Lake

My folks have a cabin on Third Crow Wing. I rode the struggle bus for a long time trying to find fish worth catching, so my wife hired a fishing guide. Know his secret? Drag half crawlers around on a bullet weight near the weedlines or by the inlet. Didn't catch eyes, but we did catch a bunch...

    Rust removal and trailer help

Oh yes. Inside of metal is plenty rusty. When he built it, he neglected to account for drainage. One of them actually expanded and cracked from ice over the winter. I'm going to drill out drain holes on the four main metal supports so that doesn't happen again. This truly is more of a utility...

    Rust removal and trailer help

10 cent dust mask, ear muffs that double for hunting season, and some goggles. I'm set :D - - - Updated - - - I assume I need to clean the service first to get the dust off? It can't be as simple as wiping down with alcohol I suppose...

    Rust removal and trailer help

I swung by Harbor Freight (realize it's cheap tools but it was on my way back to work after dropping off parts). Sand blasting would cost a bit more, but I'm sure the end result is better. I'm not certain my little pancake compressor has enough oomph for the siphon blaster attachment they had...

2019 Deer Season and Tags Set

Thanks Buzz Kill. I drew last year and prior to that hadn't drawn a buck tag for four years. I thought I might get a doe at best, but didn't expect to draw buck.

    Results are out

Antlered buck 2f1. Two years in a row. Was not prepared for that. I've been practicing my bow all summer just for archery. I guess I need to dust off the ought-six a bit earlier than anticipated.

That time I should have died...

There’s a reason Oakes was a powerhouse wrestling town forever. You boys are cut from a different cloth! Goodness.

    Rust removal and trailer help

I don't mind if the rust comes back a bit. This thing is literally all rust. Completely covered in surface rust. But it's structurally sound. So I figure if I can get it down to bare metal and paint, it should be OK for a bit. And if it starts to rust through I'll just keep coating with paint...

    Rust removal and trailer help

I'm enjoying the project so far. I actually ground the rust off a couple of the square tubing sections and applied a quick coat of paint to see what it looked like. Seems like it should hold up. Theoretically. I guess if it rusts out in a few years, oh well. Can't look worse than it does already.

    Rust removal and trailer help

I purchased a used duck boat this weekend and it came with a trailer. Not a boat trailer, but a flat bed with square tubing reinforcement. The guy who owned it is 75 and had more stories to tell than I had time, unfortunately. However, I really like the trailer. It was painted at one point but...

That time I should have died...

I was 16. Girl I liked needed a ride home -- about 25 minutes away. Said I'd be glad to take her. Road was a winding one I'd been down countless times. We were blaring the music in my little Geo Prizm, showing her the CDs I had in my visor so she could pick one and put it in the Discman...

    Burke County Wind Farm Denied

Same for ethanol. It's a feel-good fuel source that's only profitable because the government pays to make it so. Take away subsidies, and ethanol would make zero cents/sense.

    Burke County Wind Farm Denied

Wind power is not to a point where it's profitable to run them. The only reason there are so many is because when the libs were running things there were subsidies to offset the cost and maintenance. No subsidies means energy companies don't want to put a dime into them when good old fashion...

    Hello from Carl

I hate to be a naysayer, but I'll agree with my fellow NDAers. 4-5 years ago it would be a no brainer. Head somewhere generally west of the Mighty Mo River and you'll bump into pheasants. But our habitat declines and rough winters have beat the snot out of them. For someone just hopping across...

Zebra Mussels Discovered in Lake Ashtabula

I know for a fact freshwater shrimp hitch rides on birds because I had a Geo prizm trunk to prove it. Went out on an early goose hunt back in my younger days and whacked a limit in a field. Put the geese in the trunk with some gear (the rest went in the back seat) and drove an hour back home. By...
