    Shelter Belts

I've shot a pile of grouse and pheasant out of single row tree lines and have walked hundreds of miles along them. Ours have seen better days though, nearing 60 years old as well. Has anyone replanted the old rows with any success? Thinking spray out the grass a fall & spring, then hand plant...

Math issues? Common sense issues? where to start?

Funny part is in my experience, kids know the order of operations and can execute it. The bigger issue may be the 8/2 or 4 x 4.....that could take awhile, and they may only have a 50% chance at getting it right. Do all the steps right, then screw up the basic arithmetic. Sad!

    Oil Extractors?

Thanks for the info. I asked my dealer about pulling the plug on the F200 and they just looked at me funny. Said the extractor is the way to go. I too have some thoughts that I'd like to drain it all. But as SDMF said, I'm hardly touching the oil's life. I'm sure it's best to do when warm...

    Oil Extractors?

Seems I am seeing more and more that people are using oil extractors for oil changes. Does anyone use one regularly? My outboard (Yamaha F200) suggests using one to make the changes. I always thought draining made more sense, but what do I know? If you have one you use and like, please post...

Math issues? Common sense issues? where to start?

Don't get me wrong, I don't totally hate on investigations style math. I struggled with higher level math and believe some of the investigations style curriculum could have been extremely helpful to me. But, there are two main issues I see on a day to day basis. The first as I already...

Math issues? Common sense issues? where to start?

Lack of number sense, plain and simple, is a huge issue with our youth. I teach HS students basic technical math and it is incredible what I see. I'd say over 50% of my students could not tell me that .25, 1/4th, 25/100, and 250/1000 all represent the same thing. Fractions are incredibly...

    Boat windshield protector?

Those Flak Jackets look very nice. I am still totally happy with my Truxedo. It has held up well, the only thing I'd say is be careful if it is super cold. I fished really late into fall this year and it gets stiff at 15 degrees. But overall, I'd certainly buy another. If you got a boat...

    Electronic Posting

From a logistical point of view, I will be curious to see how they manage areas with no GIS database. We have a lot of counties in SD that have nothing on GIS and OnX tries their best to cover it. Going to need a lot of database updates, done regularly, to make it work. Add in the lack of...

    600 merc

I've always said I'd rather have a boat that can do 35 mph in any conditions versus one that can do 65 mph a couple times a year. It's going to take a lottery win for me to test the theory out with a Yellowfin though. When you can't stomach the gas tank (420 gallons on the 34'), I don't think...

    600 merc

34' Yellowfin with a couple 300's or a 600 would be nice on the breezy days we see on Sak and Oahe!

The Supreme Court announced Monday that it will decide a core gun rights issue

This case is a lot like the scene in the movie Tombstone when he tries to ban having guns in town. "We're not saying you can't own a gun. We're not saying you can't carry a gun. We're just saying you can't carry a concealed gun out of your house". I've done a lot of research on this and as I...

    Dewalt cordless lawn tools.

We packed the Dewalt 12" chainsaw in on horses hunting on several occasions to take care of any blow down or random trees on the trail. It works great. Used to carry 4 20v batteries but now carry 2 40v instead. A 40v lasts a long, long time. I can run one all day putting OSB on a roof and...

The Supreme Court announced Monday that it will decide a core gun rights issue

This will be an interesting case. The court will only address the issue in front of them and is careful not to rule on something bigger than the direct effects of the case. The one thing I've read about the Heller case is that it leaves a lot of openings for restrictions that can be upheld in...

    NDGNF Survey

I did some reading and it sounds like nobody thinks that baiting will stop CWD. But they are trying to reduce it through less contact. As you say, what do you do when there are hundreds of deer on hay or certain fields? They certainly get it through contact it looks like, based on a couple...

    NDGNF Survey

I agree with things being hammered down our throats. Experience that with the SDGFP too. Scientific, biological decisions should be the driving force of things, but the social aspect will always be there. I'd expect you should, if by pushing, get access to that survey if you really wanted...

    NDGNF Survey

I don't have a pony in the show here being from SD. There is CWD in the unit I hunt that borders ND unfortunately. I don't know that CWD will be controlled no matter what we do. I didn't read any of the questions, but having a stats/human dimension guy coming up with it isn't the end of the...

    Medora fire

Hopefully it lays down tonight and they can get line around it. Last I knew there were two heavy air tankers in Rapid City. Get them up early tomorrow and help get some line in where access sucks. Or so I hope they'll utilize them. Bad start to the year so far. SD is looking at much needed...

    Medora fire

There have been many instances of vehicles quitting when fast moving fire fronts, smoke, and heat get close. I believe the smoke has more to do with it than anything but can't say for sure. A guy near my age from another town was killed in a burnover in southern South Dakota after the rig they...

    Optimax Issues

Coils. Had a friend with the same year 250. He had a lot of coil issues and when it did it, it acted just like you described. It was weird, would lay down, then all of a sudden come alive and go. There was some warranty with the coils if I remember, he had to chase it quite a bit with the...

    used boat prices

The price of nearly anything right now is pretty wild. Building materials, ammo, lawnmowers, boats, whatever, it's all gotten crazy. The fed says inflation is low......well if the price of goods goes up considerably, what do you call that? That is another conversation entirely! But, people...
