    HS vs Cooper

I have two custom, one semi custom, and a Cooper Phoenix. They are all good. Most smiths will guarantee a one minute of angle, very good gunsmiths guarantee 1/2 minute of angle. My experience is those gunsmiths who guarantee 1/2 minute normally produce rifles that with good ammo produce 1/4...

    357 revolver?

I have had S&W 66, 586, 686, and a few 629's. I only have a short barrel 66 left and the rest are 629's. 8 3/8 inch and 4 inch. Nine grains of Unique behind a 240 is 1157 fps and a joy to shoot. You can hunt cottontail without much meat damage with the slow big bullets, and add a couple of...

You know you're getting OLDER when...........

Screwed up my back trying to impress my employer 45 years ago. I can't count the number of times I have been to a chiropractor or how many MRI's I have had. The brain however still thinks I am eighteen. Packed out a muley about a mile last week-end. Had a stent put in the week before. I'm good.

To much drinking or to much thinking?

Management sure must be different from one reservation to another. At Spirit Lake the management is kill everything that moves, and seasons what's a season?

The whole posted / unposted land thing in ND should die (includes Poll)

I didn't read half the posts, but why is it people from California, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Montana, South Dakota, and on and on and on, think they need to tell us hicks how to do things? Kiss off.

    .308/7.62 NATO load recommendations

I shoot a 185 gr Burger VLD with Varget to 1000 yards. I went heavy when a military sniper told me the 175 SMK would stay supersonic to 1000 yards, but the 168 would not because of the lower ballistic coefficient. The higher ballistic coefficient makes up for slightly lower velocity. I have a...

    "stillhunting" binocs?

The 8X32 Meopta Meostar that I looked through I thought were better than Swarovski at half the price. I just bought 10X42 Vortex Razors and I am still wondering if I should have bought the Meopta.

True black friday coming NASA says.

The guy who wrote the hoax has to be as dumb as a stump. No sunshine for days and the earth will warm up? I think the author may have been Al Gore.

    shooting VLD's

No, you can neck size only. If you use full length sizing dies and following their directions your perhaps setting back .003 to .005 inches. The problem with not sizing is every once in a while one will chamber very hard and you don't want that happening with mr big in front of you. If you...

    Winterizing

Hmm now I wonder about my gas. Last time I filled was at the bait shop at Grahams Island. I dumped in a can of seafoam, took out my depth finders, and put 1 amp battery tenders on all the batteries. The half the garage the boat is in isn't heated, but I have so far never had a mouse in it...

    shooting VLD's

I shoot Berger VLD in six different rifles. They all like the bullet about .004 off the lands. Your going to need a bullet comparator to set that up. The hybrids are not as picky, but then they are not a hunting bullet either. Of those six rifles I mentioned none shoot a group larger than...

    F'n beavers!!!!

Dynamite must last a long time. Our neighbor who passed away six or seven years ago touched of two or three sticks in beaver dams every spring. I don't know how long it has been that a farmer can buy dynamite, but he has been blasting beaver dams as long as I can remember. He died, the kid...

    Greatful and Sad

Ya when dad worked off the farm and I was to little to pull a calf I would drive the new 1949 Nash Rambler out to the middle of the pasture and carefully pull them with that.

    Greatful and Sad

gst I certainly don't blame you for posting in your situation. I would too. I have also heard stories like you mention. Every Tom Dick and Harry wounded a buck and wants to check on it. I have even seen four guys walking abreast pushing deer when one guy had a camera and a van sits on the...

    Greatful and Sad

I think you hit on the reason why many are angry with non residents. It's not that we don't like them, but when they come from Minneapolis and give a farmer $1000 to hunt his land for a week he shuts off everyone else, often including friends. It's getting more like Texas every year. I...

How to collect a yellowjacket hive

Garbage bag at night is a good idea. Then put some insecticide in the bag. Many insects survive extended freezing. I always bag and use insecticide on coyotes too.

    Soaking Meat in Fridge

Speaking of old timers my grandfather hung ducks on the north side of the barn with guts in for three days. It sounds nuts, but I remember thinking grandpa had the best tasting ducks of anyone. Tried it with field dressed grouse once. Very good.
