I tried that. I have one bird for some mapping and 360. The unit had no issues with function. I just didn't like it over the Lowrance. I am trying an Onix 10 this year. Birds seem like they are the base model chevy and the lowrance is like a cadillac. Map zoom and operation is so...
Like Allen mentioned, I would be more worried about the motor. If you tilt it up the water will still hang in the unit and possibly crack the case when it freezes. You would likely want to leave the motor as far down in the water as possible. I wouldn't worry about ~1 inch on a 'toon for...
In my experience, Frabill has had top notch service. I called in on a few things for my flip over and rod case and they were quick to send me free replacement parts or total free replacement. Maybe say you went to net a sturgeon and the handle buckled?;)
