    Deer Rut 2018

I grunted in a decent 4x4 this morning from 150 yards out, in to about 45. Trouble was I was not in a stand or blind of any kind and couldn't see him going around the hill I was on until he was down wind and bolted.

    foxpro experts

My brother epoxied a tripod quick connect to the bottom and runs it off a short tripod. Just 1-2 feet of the ground makes a big difference. You'll need to conceal it a bit though (brush, yucca, etc). Coyotes can pin-point that sound, and if they see some chunk of plastic on top of a tripod...

906 yards? Whats the problem, your boots don't work? ;)

    scope

"Overly spendy" is relative. Please elaborate. To me, I'd be looking at a Leupold VX5 HD 3-15. Those can be had for ~$800, which to me represents a good value on a midrange scope, but may be "Overly spendy" to you.

    A400 Xplor Action

Does anyone know what the real capacity is on the A400 Xplor? I've seen both 2+1 and 3+1. I'm debating between this and the Benelli M2. Those seem to be about the only good options in a left-hand auto, outside of the flagship 3 1/2 inch guns. I'm not against a 3 1/2, but I haven't seen a...

    Bergara B-14 HMR

No first-hand experience shooting one, but I've handled many and read plenty about them. They seem to be a quality made rig that checks a lot of boxes. If they made one in left-hand, I might have one.

    South Dakota Pheasant Hunting

Ah yes, the old SD triple crown. I've done it many times. Last week I was in Pierre and completed a modified version with coyotes, prairie dogs, and walleyes. The first two... not as tasty...

    South Dakota Pheasant Hunting

The birds stand on the gravel roads like fricken morons in the morning. It's designed to make it more sporting. Small game license is the only requirement. You can hunt the ditches, but if you down one beyond the ditch, you must either get permission, or leave your weapon to retrieve it.

    New Rifle Break-In

You MUST break in a new barrel with the following process. Failure to do so will ruin the barrel and possibly give you erectile dysfunction. 1. Clean with gypsy tears. 2. Shoot three rounds with a smaller caliber. For example, shoot a 6mm Creed through your 6.5. 3. Clean again with a solution...

    Wyoming Antelope 2019

There are obscene amounts of public land in WY. You shouldn't have trouble finding some with a few speed goats.

    Carry rifle and shotgun?

I did this for a while back when I lived in SD and I pheasant hunted a lot more. Seems yotes were always popping out of the sloughs we walked. It works best if you have both a rifle and a shotgun you don't care that much about. I was poor at the time, so I had an Yugo-surplus SKS and a...

    Jury duty

I just got called for the first time for Nov 6. Timing couldn't suck more. I had that week off to bow hunt in SD. I know, civic duty and so forth... ;:;banghead

    Hunting dogs surprise

I used to have a big (85#) block-headed chocolate lab that some upland elitists would make fun of... until he got into the field and got shit done. He got many compliments over the years.

Help me rig my new bow

Yep, I'm going with new arrows. I decided I want to shoot a much heavier arrow, like in the 450-500 grain range if I can. I'm thinking the Easton FMJs. - - - Updated - - - Thats fine for tree stand hunting, but doesn't work as well when stalking mulies or elk. - - - Updated - - - I like...

Help me rig my new bow

I have a Bowtech RPM 360 comming. It's brand new, but a hold-over, so about half price of the current Bowtech flagship. My current bow has a Spot Hogg sight and QAD Ultra Rest that are fairly new and I like very much, so I think I'll just move those over, but I'd like some thoughts on a few...

Boot Review - Scheels Crispi Summit

I've put my Crispi Idaho GTXs through two 10-day+ backcountry elk hunts and numerous other smaller hunts, and they've held up quite well. I used to get blisters on my heels all the time. Not with these boots. However, around the same time I got the new boots, I found I need to lace them up...

    E4 Elk Success

Holy crap, I didn't realize rifle season opened that early in E4. That would certainly be different to chase them during the rut with a rifle.

    Puller The Trigger

Not really. They mow down everything in sight until all that's left is a big dirt patch with mounds. However, since I don't have any on my land, I'm kind of fond of the fuzzy little critters, or at least 'sploding them.

    Deer Decoys

Last year was the first time I ever used one. Pre-rut: deer don't give a shit. During rut: Works. I killed a buck that came in from a few hundred yards out. He was sniffing the rear of the decoy when I arrowed him. I used a buck decoy and a grunt call, but I like the idea of the doe paired...
