    .270 Win Load Recommendations?

IMO, you should almost always free float the barrel. There are two exceptions: 1. Full length bedding, which is a different conversation altogether. 2. It's a pretty gun that you don't want to risk damaging the "fit and finish", you shoot it rarely and don't mind shooting 1.5 MOA or more...

    Suppressor Questions

That's what I ran on my 16" 556 for a year or two until I got a dedicated 556 suppressor. It will change point of impact, but grouping should be the same or possibly better. I've never seen a gun shoot worse with one on. - - - Updated - - - One time I couldn't even hit the paper at 100...

    Gun barrel finishing options

I like Duracoat as it's easy to apply and holds up very well on every surface (SS, blued steel, aluminum, various composites) that I've tried it on. See related thread here: http://nodakangler.com/forums/showthread.php?8074-DIY-Duracoat-It-can-be-done&highlight=duracoat However, I will admit...

    Suppressor Questions

I got my second one (556 this time) in December. I took a good 10 months. The most annoying part was it was approved Nov 9, then it took them just over a month to get the approved paperwork back to Dakota Silencer. That's our government for you. Takes a month to stick something in an...

    FFL transfer

$25 is actually pretty good considering the hassle and paper work involved. I think Scheels in Fargo wants like $50. Definitely sucks on something cheap like a stripped lower.

Caught my first fish using a baitcaster

I'm not sure that it is, unless he casts left-handed. I've never understood why you'd want to cast with your right hand and then switch hands every time to also reel with your right hand. Not to mention you then have to set the hook primarily with your left hand.

    Livin' Part of Life...

Some dipshit landed a jig in my brothers boat in the stilling basin in Pierre earlier this year. It got stuck in the carpet and he had the audacity to yell at him to give it back. That one may have come to blows if they hadn't left quickly. Seriously, when there's a bunch of boats in one...

Caught my first fish using a baitcaster

Good on ya for stepping up to what I call a "big boy" reel. You'll want to punch it in the face at first but soon you won't want to bass fish with anything else. You'll be dropping rigs into tiny openings in structure like a fricken Jedi.

    1984 Mariner/Mercury carb float adjustment

I'm not a "knowledgeable motor expert", or even what you'd call "helpful", but I did have a 1983 50hp Merc for several years. I had those carbs off so many times I could do it blindfolded, but never had the problem you're describing. I had problems with the needles, diaphragms, gaskets, etc...

    7-08 Rem: Input Needed

That sounds like a giant pain in the ass. Is your time worth nothing? This isn't 2007 anymore. Creedmoor brass is readily available from several manufacturers. Lapua recently started making 6.5CM brass. That's what you want...

    7-08 Rem: Input Needed

Here's something else to keep you up at night: 6.5 Creedmoor or 260 Remington? The ballistics are essentially the same, and with the 260, you could still use that pile of cheap brass you're so fond of. - - - Updated - - - There's two reasons typically given for reloading: 1. Craft...

DIY Duracoat - It can be done

I finally did the 556. Turned out pretty good, but I found out that if you use a non-adhesive stencil, you're probably better off just holding it and spraying each spot individually instead of trying to wrap a flat stencil around rounded gun parts and spraying all at once. Before: During...

    7-08 Rem: Input Needed

7mm-08 is a very underrated round. It will handily take any NA game. It beats the 308 in pretty much every way. 260 rem is even better, but that's not the question here. My concerns are: - In a 5# gun, it may beat you more than you want. -- But on the other hand, the suppressor will fix...

    Remington 700 problem

You may be right, but to me, it's the principal of the matter. This is a new rifle and had this problem since day one. I'm giving Remington a chance to make it right. If I'm going to pay someone to do anything else with this rifle, it will be spinning a new Bartlein on it.

    Remington 700 problem

Yep, I did. I did a whole write up including a spreadsheet showing headspace measurements between new and once-fired brass -- yes I'm a bit of a nerd that way. Anyway, I told them if they have to replace the barrel, that's fine, but I expect it to be cut down to 24 inches and threaded, and...

    Remington 700 problem

Just a heads-up. If you call Remington about a possible warranty issue, don't mention shooting hand loads through it. Apparently that will void the warranty. When I started to go into how the extraction problem was happening with some of my hand loads too, the guy I talked to was nice enough...
