    After the hunt!

    I use the skid plate on my Britt and it works with adjustments. I did get her a small for her this year. Last year she had a medium and it was just a bit big. Once in a while she managed to get a front leg caught up, she just kept on hunting . On three legs. God I'm going to miss her some day.

    We always stay at a ranch so we eat good. Beef stew heavy on the beef. Deep fried walleye and onions. Lots of snacks during the day. Healthy ones like candy bars and summer sausage and jerky.

    As long as the dogs work the wind I don't get too worked up about range. She rarely gets out over 100 yards. She will check back fairly often. We have shot hundreds of roosters late season. That got up 10 feet away or less. Those big flocks that jump early are nearly impossible to get close too...

    Pointers really shouldn't be jumping in and catching birds. Unless they are retrieving a cripple. Nothing like watching my dog stand on point for two minutes while I kick the grass for a bird that is 3 feet away! I never encourage the dogs to bust the birds. They find them and I bust them.

    I had a Britt that caught a grouse, several pheasants and two mallard hens. Today my 5 month old pup picked up a rooster that was dead for a couple of days. He thought he was the man carrying that nasty bird around.
